Professor David Mhlanga is an award-winning economist, higher education professional, and researcher with expertise in economics, finance, financial technology (FinTech), and artificial intelligence for development. He holds a PhD in Economics from North-West University (South Africa), alongside a Master of Commerce in Economics and a Bachelor of Science Honours in Economics from the University of Zimbabwe. Currently based in Melbourne, Australia, Dr. Mhlanga serves as Teaching Associate in Economics at Monash University and as an Academic Teacher at the Australian College of Applied Professions, where he delivers courses in research methods, policy, and global business.
Professor Mhlanga is also the Principal Consultant at EconoWrite Research and Director of the EconoWrite Institute for Policy Innovation & Development (EIPID), which provide research consulting, academic publishing, and policy innovation support. His career spans impactful roles as Associate Professor and Senior Research Fellow at the University of Johannesburg, as well as research appointments in Malaysia and South Africa.
Recognised globally for his contributions, he is a recipient of Australia’s Global Talent Visa and multiple teaching and research awards, including the Research Excellence Awards and Purple Letter Awards for outstanding teaching. His scholarship focuses on advancing sustainable development through innovation, financial inclusion, and technology.
