Marie-Eve Carignan, Ph.D., is a full professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Sherbrooke, co-holder and director of the Media Cluster of the UNESCO Chair in Prevention of Violent Radicalization and Extremism (UNESCO-PREV Chair). She is also a member of the Research Chair in Climate Science Diplomacy. Her research focuses on media content analysis, the impact of media on society, disinformation and conspiracy theories, risk and crisis communication, and communication strategies. These topics lead her to collaborate on several projects addressing climate and environmental issues. In this capacity, she is the principal investigator of a project examining discourse and acceptance of climate disinformation in Quebec and Canada, as well as a project addressing non-polarizing communication regarding solutions to combat climate change. She has participated in numerous events focusing on climate disinformation, including panels at COP28, and has organized training sessions for various environmental organizations, such as Vire au vert and Équiterre. She has also contributed to several edited volumes and published in national journals.

Marie-Eve Carignan has extensive professional experience in communications, strategic analysis, and public relations within both small and large organizations. She regularly appears as a guest expert in national and international media and serves as a speaker and trainer at various public forums. Involved in major scientific initiatives, she serves on the Steering Committee of the ScienceUpFirst project as well as on the National Committee for Arts, Culture, and Health. Her remarkable achievements have been recognized with prestigious honors, such as the “Bridge 2025” award from the International Crisis and Risk Communication Association, which acknowledges her exceptional contribution to research and practice in risk and crisis communication.
