Eduardo Arriagada had been professor at the Journalism School of Universidad Católica (UC) from 1988. Between 2016 and 2020 he was dean of its Communications Faculty. He has combined his academic work with his role as a columnist and as a consultant for different iberoamerican Media. There he went from supporting the accomplishment of traditional good practices to develop the adaptation process of these companies to the new environment of Social Networks and mobile devices. Eduardo has worked as Head of Communications at the Central Bank of Chile and is member of the international Editorial Board of “Communication and Society” (Pamplona) and “Telos Magazine” (Madrid).
He is also part of the pool of external assessors for the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) at Poynter Institute and is member of the Advisory Council at the “Data Catalyst” NGO. In 2016 he received the Ibero-American Congress on social Networks (iRedes) award at Burgos, Spain because of “...his contribution on the spread of the technological innovations which are transforming communications and media”. Eduardo is author of “#Digital Tsunami” (2013) and “Make the most out of your phone” (2015). In the last years he has given lectures on the impact of the mobile social networks rise in Sucre, Santiago de Compostela, Cartagena de Indias, Aarhus, Bogota, Rome, Valencia, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Asunción and Mexico City.
His research area is the Information Industry and the Management of Mass Media Business, specializing in newspapers. He was a pioneer in the work of social networks and mobile devices. He is an active participant on Twitter and periodically comments on communication topics on the website Medium.com.
