Dr Margarita Sordo holds a BSc (Hons) Computer Science, ITAM, Mexico; MSc. Artificial Intelligence, University of Edinburgh, UK; and Ph.D. Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, University of Sussex, UK.  Her research in Medical Informatics includes the application of knowledge representation and artificial intelligence in medicine and healthcare; development and applicability of standards in clinical decision support (CDS) to foster interoperability, and reusability of medical content; knowledge and data governance to promote responsible use of data for AI in healthcare; responsible application of AI for knowledge discovery; modeling patients beliefs and behaviors and their impact on health and well-being. She is a member of the New England Advisory Board to the Mexican government; appointed representative of Mexico to the OECDs Global Partnership on AI (GPAI), steering committee member of the OECD-GPAI Pandemic Resilience, and scientific advisor on artificial intelligence and medical informatics to national and international organizations and academic institutions. Previous work includes integration of knowledge and imaging for breast cancer diagnosis; design and development national and international standards for representation and encoding of knowledge for CDS; development of standards-based technology models to support enterprise-wide integration of CDS; development of computational techniques for detecting and tracking medication-related complications in patients nation-wide.
