Francisco J. Gutierrez is an Assistant Professor in Human-Centered Computing at the University of Chile. His current research interests are the design, use, and evaluation of interactive computing systems in extended reality environments, particularly aiming to support presence, involvement, and immersion in several application domains, such as healthcare, education, gaming, and assistive technologies. He is also interested in studying the human and social factors in the interaction within the so-called metaverse, including the moral and ethical dilemmas that lie in the intersection between the user, society, and technology. In this line of work, Prof. Gutierrez has a strong interest in exploring the challenges that emerge in the personalization of persuasive computing technology for wellbeing, as well as understanding the ethical and misinformation challenges when conceiving novel interactive systems regarding equity, work, society, education, and health. He currently chairs the Santiago-Chile ACM SIGCHI Chapter (Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction) and serves in the ACM SIGCHI Latin American Committee. Prof. Gutierrez obtained his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Chile in 2017 and was a visiting scholar at the University of Saskatchewan under the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program of the Government of Canada.
