Luiz Valério P. Trindade holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Southampton (UK), and his main areas of research and teaching encompass: 1) critical ethnic and racial studies; 2) qualitative analysis of hate speech on social media; 3) critical discourse analysis; 4) social representation of ethnic minorities in means of mass communication; 5) racism and anti-racism; and 6) critical humour studies. Moreover, in 2018 he has authored an influential Policy Brief entitled Contemporary Forms of Racism and Bigotry on Social Media Platforms and subsequently, the books No Laughing Matter: Race Joking and Resistance in Brazilian Social Media (Vernon Press, 2020) and Discurso de ódio nas Redes Sociais (Editora Jandaíra, 2022). Finally, his work has also been featured in a variety of publications such as Alceu (PUC-RJ); Annals of Social Science and Management Studies; Canadian Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Studies; Comunicaçãoo, Mídia e Consumo (ESPM-SP); Ethnic and Racial Studies; Discover Society (UK); International Network for Hate Studies (UK); Social Science Space & Sage Publishing (USA); Sociologicamente (Italy), The Conversation (UK), among many others.
