Sangeet Kumar is Associate Professor of Media Studies in the Department of Communication at Denison University. His ongoing research projects interrogate the ongoing global tussles over regulating digital platforms, the role of analytics in reshaping news and journalism as well as the geopolitical stakes in contestations over digital sovereignty. He approaches these topics through a critical cultural and postcolonial lens that foregrounds questions of inequity, power and the vantage point of the global south. His recent work has been published in journals such as Journal of Communication, Information Communication Society, International Journal of Communication and Internet Policy Review (among others). He is the author most recently of the book The Digital Frontier: Infrastructures of Control on the Global Web (Indiana University Press 2021) that analyzes the emerging nature of cultural and platform power in the global digital sphere. His ongoing book projects include an exploration of the changing nature of sovereignty by analyzing the Indian state's attempts to regulate digital platforms as well as an analysis of the role of analytics in Indian journalism.
