Ullrich Ecker is a cognitive psychologist. His research focuses on the impacts of misinformation on memory, reasoning, and behaviour, as well as communication strategies to counter these impacts. Ullrich received his PhD at Saarland University, Germany in 2007 and then moved to the University of Western Australia (UWA), where he is a Professor in the School of Psychological Science and a Fellow of the UWA Public Policy Institute. He is also a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science and was named Australia's Research Field Leader in Cognitive Science in The Australian's 2023 Research Awards. With his students and collaborators, he has published more than 100 journal articles and book chapters, and he holds editorial roles at multiple international journals. He is a lead author of the Debunking Handbook 2020 (https://skepticalscience.com/docs/DebunkingHandbook2020.pdf). He has provided expert advice to German and Australian courts of law, parliamentary committees in Singapore and Victoria, and the Australian Government as a member of a national COVID-19 “Roadmap to Recovery taskforce. He currently holds an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship to work on a project titled "Combating Misinformation".
